Why does the Catholic Church have so many rules?
The Church's precepts and moral teaching are not arbitrary restrictions but a loving mother's guidance meant to protect human freedom and dignity, showing the concrete shape love of God and neighbor takes in daily life.

The Church's laws and moral teachings flow from the two great commandments of love and are meant to help the faithful grow in holiness and avoid what truly harms them, much as a father's guidance for a child is an expression of love, not mere control.
Biblical foundation
Jesus says 'if you love me, you will keep my commandments' (John 14:15), and Paul explains that 'the whole law is fulfilled in one word, «You shall love your neighbor as yourself»' (Gal 5:14), showing that moral precepts flow from and express love rather than replace it.
