Isn't faith just wishful thinking?
Christian faith is not a leap into the dark desired to be true; it is trust grounded in historical evidence — the testimony of eyewitnesses to the Resurrection, the transformation of the apostles, and the coherence of reason and revelation — that can be examined like any other historical claim.
Catholic teaching
The Church teaches that faith and reason cannot ultimately conflict, since both come from God; faith is a free assent to revealed truth, but one that reasonable people can and should investigate through the motives of credibility God has provided, including miracles, prophecy, and the Church's own historical endurance.
Biblical foundation
Peter tells believers to 'always be prepared to make a defense... for the hope that is in you' (1 Pet 3:15), and Luke explicitly writes his Gospel from investigation of eyewitnesses so Theophilus may 'know the truth' (Luke 1:1-4), presenting faith as reasoned trust, not blind wishing.

Historians across the religious spectrum agree on core facts — Jesus' crucifixion, the disciples' sincere belief they saw him risen, and the rapid, sacrificial spread of the Church — facts that any wish-fulfillment theory must still explain without begging the question.
